Second, Elsie and Jimmy aren’t particularly well rounded characters – Sarah’s Scribbles is based on Sarah’s own life, so she feels super robust as a character, but as original characters, Elsie and Jimmy just make me feel meh. Perhaps it is that the publisher marketing makes it sounds more like a cohesive story and I thought Sarah Andersen might be edging into the world of narrative graphic novels (which would be SO exciting!) so that was disappointment number one. Sarah’s Scribbles is a very unique take on this mini-genre, but Fangs, for some reason, falls flat. The market is saturated with cute little vignette comics. I also follow a ton of web comics online and via Instagram and Reddit. I enjoy a good little gifty humor graphic novel book, but there are many to choose from these days, from Catana Comics, Poorly Drawn Lines, and many others. It is, as is Sarah’s other work, one page vignette comics that are all loosely related and tied together. It is not, however, a cohesive story with a beginning, middle and end.

This all changes one night in a bar when she meets Jimmy, a charming werewolf with a wry sense of humor and a fondness for running wild during the full moon. Together they enjoy horror films and scary novels, shady strolls, fine dining (though never with garlic), and a genuine fondness for each other’s unusual habits, macabre lifestyles, and monstrous appetites.įirst featured as a webcomic series on Tapas, Fangs chronicles the humor, sweetness, and awkwardness of meeting someone perfectly suited to you but also vastly different. I love Sarah’s Scribbles dearly (and am kicking myself for not having reviewed those books on here yet and will do so next week) and so when I found out Sarah Andersen was doing a new project, I knew I would have to read it!Įlsie the vampire is three hundred years old, but in all that time, she has never met her match.
